Sediment, such as sand, clay, or silt, deposited by flowing water, or the gradual increase of land along a shore caused by such deposits.

Examples

  • The fertile valley floor was formed by centuries of alluvion deposited by the meandering river.
  • Legal disputes often arise regarding land ownership when alluvion slowly extends a property boundary into the river.
