An antigen that stimulates the production of a specific antibody, causing red blood cells to clump together.

Examples

  • The presence of a specific agglutinogen on the cell surface determines whether a patient has type A or type B blood.
  • When an incompatible agglutinogen enters the bloodstream, the immune system immediately initiates an agglutination response.
