Relating to or denoting a case in some inflected languages, typically the object of a transitive verb or the indirect object of a verb of giving or telling.

Examples

  • In German, the noun 'der Mann' (the man) becomes 'den Mann' in the accusative case when it is the direct object.
  • Many languages use the accusative to mark the patient of a transitive verb.
