A member of a Muslim dynasty of caliphs who ruled the western and central parts of the Islamic world between the 11th and 13th centuries.

Examples

  • The Almohad Caliphate succeeded the Almoravid dynasty, which in turn had succeeded the Abbadid dynasty.
  • The Abbadid rulers were known for their patronage of arts and sciences.
